Why are testicles SO sensitive?
“I’m thinking balls are to men what purses are to women.
It’s just a little bag, but we feel naked in public without it.”
–Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex in the City)
Playing and coaching competitive soccer has put me in the uncomfortable position of being, and seeing, an athlete doubled over in pain after taking a shot to the sensitive nut sack.
Testicles, or the family jewels, produce sperm and testosterone, and they are extremely sensitive due to their many nerve endings.
When a soccer ball meets the testicles, nerves quickly communicate to the player’s brain reminding him to be more careful—or the game won’t be the only thing he’s in jeopardy of losing.
